THE PRINCIPLES

Controlling the effectiveness of an autofrettage process is essential to guarantee the expected level of permanent deformation along the entire length of the barrel.

This control requires the monitoring of the deformations of the barrel’s outer wall during the autofrettage operation, as well as taking dimensional measurements on the inner wall before and after autofrettage.

THIOT INGENIERIE has developed a bore diameter measuring device that handles calibration, precision and data collection for inclusion in the ‘quality control’ report for the barrel in question.

The device is now available for 120, 125 and 155 mm caliber barrels (smoothbore barrel).

WHAT IS PRESSURE FATIGUE TESTING?

THE ADVANTAGES

  • The sensor is calibrated using two calibers that set the value to be measured to improve measurement accuracy (approximately 5 μm)
  • The measuring buttons are retractable and do not rub inside the bore when the measuring head is moved from one position to another. Therefore, measurement is not dependent on operator dexterity
  • The measurement is saved and can be immediately printed out and inserted into the inspection report
